4 semester hours This beginning course prepares students to successfully participate in basic communicative tasks with native speakers in the classroom and in the community. Speaking and listening skills are developed through activities, simulations, and interactions with classmates and with native speakers of English. Students will be introduced to the rhythm, stress, and intonation patterns of English and given some basic pronunciation tips. Class meets seven hours weekly, including one/two hour(s) in the language lab. This course is graded S/U.
