3 semester hours Prerequisite: EDUC 219 This course is designed to pull together knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice into cohesive literacy programs designed for young children (age three to grade 3). Topics include introducing literacy to play environments, creating literate primary environments, building thematic units, reading and writing across the curriculum, expository text structures (techniques for nonfiction), accommodating for individual differences, and integrating children's literature across the early childhood and primary curriculum. Questioning strategies and study skills appropriate to the age range will also be covered.
