An overview of the major approaches, institutions, issues, problems, and trends essential to an understanding of the current politics of African nations south of the Sahara. Topics include the impact of colonialism, the problems of development and underdevelopment, the role of political parties and the military, and the role of Africa in the international system. Credits: 3 hours NOTE: General Honors Course. NOTE: This course counts toward the 63-hour Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) graduation requirement.
