Advanced treatment of thermodynamic systems; thermodynamic cycles; absolute scales of temperatures; entropy; thermodynamic potentials; fundamentals of statistical mechanics; microcanonical, canonical, and grand canonical ensembles with applications to classical and quantum systems. Prerequisites: grades of "C" or higher in PHYS 251, PHYS 275, PHYS 382, and MATH 264. Pre- or co-requisite: STAT 290.Credits: 3 hours When Offered: (offered spring only) NOTE: General Honors Course. NOTE: This course counts toward the 63-hour Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) graduation requirement.
