Investigates Native American encounters with non-Native American peoples between 1600 and 1900, analyzing how traditional Native American cultures changed to meet a variety of new challenges introduced to North America by Europeans and Africans. The approach will be interdisciplinary and ethno-historical with emphasis placed on case studies of important native nations at key turning points in their history.
