This course will expand students' knowledge and understanding of the primary socializer-the family-in cultures across the globe. We will look at differences in gender roles, marriage, parenting, taking care of the elderly, and other issues relevant to families. Students will engage in comparative studies not only within the U.S. but with other cultures as well. For example, how is globalization changing the dynamics of families in developing countries Because students will be primarily assigned to one culture, they have the ability to become immersed in that culture rather than just having a cursory look at multiple cultures. (Spring). Liberal arts. Prerequisites: ANT102 or CMM118 or ECO101 or GEG121 or LIN221 or PSY101 or SOC101 or WMS101; 2.3 cumulative GPA.
