The culminating backcountry ski course in the specialization category of the expeditionary studies major, this course synthesizes expeditionary leadership with pedagogy, facilitation, and specialized skills for adventure leaders. EXP487 emphasizes the three essential dimensions of backcountry skiing adventure leadership. First is facilitation, the broad base of techniques necessary to meximize effective teaching in pursuit of both individual and group goals. Secone are "metaskills," specialized skills necessary for the effective delivery of other skills. Lastly are the advanced skiing skills necessary for leadership. As in all Expeditionary Studies courses, these will be presented in advanced backcountry ski settings and in actual instruction settings. (Annually). Liberal arts. Prerequisite: POI.
