Introduces camp-craft and basic backcountry skills and is taught at the Twin Valleys Outdoor Education Center (Lewis, NY). These skills are applicable to any environment and enable students to safely engage the outdoors for intellectual, aesthetic, social, and recreational purposes. The course uses an immersive, experiential pedagogy in field situations as well as readings, discussions, and journal-keeping. Outdoor ethics and low-impact practices will be highlighted. Equipment and transportation provided; requires at least one overnight. (Fall - Spring ).
