Examination of Western rhetorical theories from classical, neo-classical and contemporary periods. Challenges to these rhetorical theories are discussed. Students read rhetorical analyses to understand how rhetorical theories are (de)constructed and to understand how theory is used for evaluating the social, political, and cultural impact of symbolic forms.
