The discovery, conquest and settlement of the American West from 1500-1892. The primary focus will be on the trans-Mississippi west from approximately 1800-1892. Attention will be given to the history and image-building of individuals and groups who played a role in the West. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)
