(O) This course examines the historical perspective of African-Americans in sport. Emphasis will be placed on the social, cultural, economic and political experiences of African-Americans in sport beginning with the Nubian culture in Africa through colonial America, slavery, the Jim Crow era of legal segregation, World War II and integration, the Civil Rights Movement and the late 20th century.
