Americans have long placed education at the center of national life, expecting it to cure social problems, shape cultural identities, and promote both individual mobility and social cohesiveness. Examines the evolution of American schools and educational beliefs with the context of social, cultural, political and economic change and places American education into an international perspective. 3 Cr.
