Includes firsthand accounts of observers and the political, economic and racial implications of this system. Compares the US plantation slavery to other slave systems in the Americas. Encourages students to borrow from the disciplines of anthropology, sociology, literature, and economics, as well as from political and intellectual history. 3 Cr. Fall
