Introduction to academic arena that combines general intellectual history, academic scholarship in social sciences and humanities, including quintessential movement for fundamental change within the academy and society at large. Also analyzes the multiplicity of interactions and interconnections among Europe, Africa, and the Americas, with reference to competing ideas revolving around civilization and culture.
