Prerequisite: BIOL 424. An introduction to theories and data relating to adaptation and speciation and how these theories are inferred in our modern classification of life. A phylogenetic analysis will be conducted on a particular group of animals or plants and the results will be compared with what is known about the processes of divergence. Tests of the various possible phylogenies will be conducted. Two lectures and one three-hour laboratory period each week.
