On demand. 3 semester hours This course provides an historical overview of the way music has developed in Western culture. It is designed for non-music majors and begins with the elements and principles of music, including notation, rhythm, melody, harmony, color, texture, and form. Students will develop listening skills and study selected pieces of music from a variety of periods in history to learn how they relate to the culture in which they were created. This course is not applicable to music major requirements, but it may be used to satisfy general education requirements.
