An investigation of the Fourth Gospel and the Epistles of John with an emphasis on their particular contribution to New Testament thought. Consideration will be given to the relationship between the Fourth Gospel and the Epistles in terms of authorship, style, and content, the relationship between the Fourth Gospel and the Synoptic Gospels, the religious traditions which may have influenced the Fourth Gospel, and the content of the Johannine writings. Prerequisite: RELS 212 or permission of the instructor. Area One: Biblical Studies. Offered alternate years. Three hours. Staff.
