This course is a study of the main cultural events in French history and the role that the French Government played in these events. Particular attention will be given to such leaders as Fran?ois I, Louis XIV, the Front populaire, André Malraux, and Jack Lang, and will help to define the notion of political culture. Examples will be drawn mainly from the plastic arts. Prerequisite: FREN 232. Three hours.
