Prerequisite: Grade of B or better in Class Piano II, or audition for piano faculty. Continues functional piano skills from Class Piano II or previous keyboard experience. The primary focus is learning to play intermediate repertoire from various historical periods of music with appropriate style and fluency. Assignments provide opportunity to develop skills in sight reading, playing I-IV-I-V-I progressions in all keys and positions, playing 2- octave scales in all keys, harmonizing and transposing melodies using diatonic triads, seventh chords, and secondary chords. The final exam for Class Piano III includes the opportunity to pass the repertoire section of the Piano Proficiency Exam, which is a graduation requirement for OC music majors. Classes normally limited to eight students. Class meets 2 hours per week.
