Prerequisites: admission to teacher education; EDUC-3213 (may enroll concurrently). After studying the broad field of Early Childhood in relation to its multiple historical, philosophical and social foundations, the candidate will examine how these foundations influence current thought and practice. After exploring the characteristics of the young child from birth to age eight, the candidate will demonstrate observation techniques and planning skills related to developmentally appropriate practice. The candidate will also reflect on the role of the teacher and ethical considerations of the Early Childhood field. This course includes field experience which is scheduled within the time allotment of the class. (Students whose programs do not require admission to teacher education but require this course will receive credit for CHDV-3013, which cannot be applied to licensure requirements.)
