N 3000 - Peri-Operative Nursing

3 cr. 2 classroom hours per week, total of 13 hours in skills lab and 32 hours precepted clinical experiences. The course focuses on the roles of the registered nurse in meeting the needs of clients and significant others who are facing the potential or actual performance of an invasive procedure in any operative setting. Emphasis is placed on applying the nursing process to assist the surgical client in reaching a level of health equal to, or greater than, their pre-operative state. Concurrent clinical experience is offered in in-patient perioperative settings. Prerequisites: NR 111/N 1000, NR 112/N 1010, NR 113/N 1020, NR 121/N 2010, NR 122/N 2020 or with administrative approval.
