provides comprehensive understanding of the nature and needs of early adolescents in grades 4-9 with an emphasis on applying this knowledge to the classroom and the total school environment. The course focuses on characteristics of developmentally responsive schools for young adolescents, as well as the rationale that supports such characteristics. Topics will include interdisciplinary teaming, teacher guidance programs, grouping and scheduling concerns, curriculum, pedagogy assessment strategies for culturally and developmentally diverse students, and the application of educational technology. Prerequisite: Admission to the teacher education program. Required field hours: 20. Prerequisite: EDUC 335
