Introduction to the descriptive inorganic chemistry of the chemical elements and selected compounds excluding hydrocarbons and their derivatives. The periodic table and periodic relationships among the elements will be used as an organizing tool to explore the sources, properties, compounds, reactions, and industrial uses of the chemical elements. The primary emphasis will be on the main group elements, but transition metal chemistry will also be described. Selected applications of inorganic substances in biochemistry, environmental chemistry, industrial chemistry, material science, and medicine will be discussed. 3 hours lecture.
