This course constitutes an examination of urbanism and the process of urbanization from a cross-cultural, comparative perspective. The course is designed to expose the student to the major conceptual models of urban communities, cities, nation states and the world system. We will study the works of scholars who have engaged in debates about these complex sociocultural formations. 3 hours lecture.
