3 hours. An introduction to the basic principles of statistics. Major topics include graphic, numeric, and algebraic summaries of data (graphs, measures of central tendency and spread, correlation and regression); elementary principles of sampling and experimental design; elementary probability; normal distributions and the central limit theorem; confidence intervals; and tests of significance. Focus on analysis of data using appropriate statistical techniques. Prerequisite: MA 145 or placement. Fall. Spring.
