3 Credit Hours Same as LAT 213 Prerequisites: CLSL 112 or two years of high school Latin. Must be taken in sequence. This course is the first semester study of Classical Latin on the intermediate college level with emphasis on translation of selected passages, primarily prose, from Republican and Augustan authors. Topics include continued study of grammar, especially subjunctive uses, literary analysis and terms, and the historical setting of the passages studied. Additional readings in translation to complement the passages read in Latin will also be included. The intent of this course is that the student correctly translate, grammatically analyze articulately criticize selected Latin passages. At the successful completion of this course, the student should be able to read, translate, and discuss the artistic and historical characteristics of selected Latin passages.
