3 hours, 3 credits. A study of major Italian film makers: their themes, styles, and social significance, through the showing and discussion of selected, outstanding films (with English subtitles). Complementary readings of selected works of Italian literature (in English translation) that have significantly influenced the aesthetics and evolution of Italian films. The course will be conducted entirely in English and assumes no previously learned material.
