Major emphasis on 1874-1945, the period of the borough's most rapid growth, and experience with modern urban problems. Topics include ethnic immigration and mobility, the effects of mass transit development, Prohibition, and the ways various external events, such as wars and depressions, have influenced the borough and its people.
