An introductory course in the history, principles, and practice of journalism, with special attention given to the powers and responsibilities of a free press. Discussions of reporting techniques, reliability of sources, the laws of libel, objectivity, and other matters. Regular practice in the writing of the short news story. Individual conferences. PREREQ: Successful completion of ENG 120 or the equivalent.
