An introduction to the general biology and classification of insects. Course emphasis placed on taxonomy, methods of identification, and ecological role of insects. Students will become familiar with basic insect anatomy and morphology, classification of the order level with exemplary families that include Taxa of agricultural or environmental interest, and acquire an ability to sight recognize particular species that have agricultural, environmental, wildlife, and human/livestock health importance. Field trips and a collection are required. Credits: 3 Prerequisites: P, MATH 102 or higher, and one of following: BIOL 103-103L, BOT 201-201L, or BIOL 153-153L. Corequisites: Corequisite: PS 305L or ZOOL 305L. Cross-Listed: Crosslisted with PS 305.
