First course in a 2-semester sequence designed to teach students current concepts in genetics, cellular and molecular biology. This course prepares students in the biological sciences for advanced courses in their emphasis areas. Topics covered in this course include: mendelian inheritance; mitosis and meiosis; basic cell structure; chromosomal basis of inheritance and linkage; extra nuclear genes; chromosomal mutations; epistasis, alleles and the environment; gene function; genetic mapping; population genetics; quantitative genetics; evolution and natural selection. This course is designed to be taken in conjunction with BIOL 202L. Credits: 3 Prerequisites: P, BIOL 153 or BIOL 103; CHEM 114-114L Corequisites: Corequisite course BIOL 202L.
