SCI 300 - Understanding Scientific Communication

Course concentrates on the methods for preparation and presentation of scientific papers, posters, and oral communication. Students will utilize a data set to produce a publication quality manuscript, a poster suitable for a scientific meeting; and a 15-minute presentation such as would be given at a scientific meeting. Topics covered include abstracts, nature of scientific writing, structure and organization of scientific publication, use of literature, graphics and graphic design, and methods of polishing the oral presentation. Credit can not be given also to BIO 696 unless approved by dean, College of Science, Engineering and Technology. Prerequisite: sophomore standing. (Same as GSC 301)
