[Choice:HU] This course surveys the social and aesthetic impact and development of cinema from its literary and technological origins in the nineteenth century through the French and American development of the early silent cinema, Soviet expressive montage, German expressionist cinema, the French surrealist avante garde, the studio years of Hollywood, Italian neo-realism, the French new wave, and contemporary developments, including the recent influence of electronically generated and broadcast cinema. Prerequisites & Notes The prerequisite is FLM 1055 or ENG 1052 or permission. There is a lab fee. This course is offered every odd-numbered spring. Credits: 3
