This course addresses the concept of disability through an investigation of children with disabilities.? High incidence disabilities (e.g. intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities and emotional disturbance), low incidence disabilities (e.g. vision disabilities, hearing disabilities and physical disabilities), and "increasing incidence" disabilities (e.g. autism spectrum disabilities, traumatic brain injury, and attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder) are studied from multiple perspectives: the individual, family, schools, community and society.? The effects of increased awareness, greater knowledge, medical advances, improved educational practices, and changes in social values are emphasized. Prerequisites & Notes The prerequisites are EDU 2210 and sophomore standing, or permission.? This course is offered every semester. Credits: 3
