Prerequisite: SOCL 101 or consent of instructor. The first part of the course is devoted to an examination of prejudice and discrimination as characteristics of human societies. The second part of the course examines a number of socially recognized and in some cases, culturally distinct minority groups in the United States with particular attention given to their histories, problems and the degrees to which each, where it applies, has assimilated with the dominant American society.
