SM 1212 - Calculus I

Institution:
Massachusetts Maritime Academy
Subject:
Description:
This course introduces fundamental skills from both differential and integral calculus. The differential calculus topics include limits, continuity, the derivative, rules for derivatives of certain algebraic and transcendental functions, applications of the derivative (such as velocity and acceleration, related rates, optimization problems), higher derivatives, the chain rule, and implicit differentiation. The integral calculus topics include anti-derivatives, the area bounded by a curve, indefi nite and defi nite integrals, the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, integration by substitution, the Trapezoid Rule and other methods of numerical integration. Topics are explored analytically, graphically, and numerically. The use of a graphics calculator is an integral part of this course. Prerequisite: SM-1111 STCW: None
