Competitive price advantage and technological advancement in ship construction have lowered transport costs and made ocean transportation an invaluable facilitator of world trade, growth and prosperity. The ever- increasing body of international rules and standards with regard to cargo security, ship safety and environmental protection makes the adoption of a security and safety oriented management culture an essential feature of maritime business. The course objective is to offer students a thorough understanding of international shipping and trade policy issues, bringing together and honing the knowledge gathered in earlier IMB courses.
