This three-credit course in coastal zone management (CZM) examines the many issues surrounding the governance of the coastal zone. This includes the physical setting and ecological characteristics, the public and private rights in coastal land and waters, the various legal regimes responsible for management; the policies of state and federal CZM programs, the role of confl ict resolution in managing uses of the coastal zone, and integrated and international coastal zone management.
