A course designed to further the reading, writing , and critical thinking skills taught in ENGL 105. The course focuses on reading and writing in the sciences, familiarizing students with various forms of communication found in the scientific community. Students study the ways in which knowledge is made in the sciences and the rhetorical conventions that reflect and shape scientific epistemology. Students are also introduced to how scientific information is disseminated and how scientists publish their findings. Writing assignments familiarize students with scientific discourse and build their awareness of the rhetorical and social contexts of scientific knowledge. Prerequisite: ENGL 105 and word processing skills
