Microwave remote sensing, both passive (radiometry) and active (radar), as it applies to Earth's surface and atmosphere. Overview of relevant electromagnetic theory and antenna theory. Planck emission and the radiative transfer equation. The electrical properties of natural media (atmosphere, soil, and vegetation) at microwave frequencies. Atmospheric sounding, remote sensing of soil and vegetation water content, data inversion, and data assimilation.
