The course will examine the basic science underlying exercise and its implications on overall health and fitness. The influence of exercise and athletic training on the human body will be studied in the context of a dynamic process. After introducing the basic biochemistry, anatomy and physiology of the bodily systems (metabolic, musculoskeletal, respiratory, cardiovascular and nervous), a study of the effects of various exercise activities on these systems will ensue. Knowing the biology behind the structure and function of bodily systems, the rationale behind many training regimens and the fallacy behind many myths will be explored. Prerequisite: STL 100. Class meetings include lecture and laboratory. 3 credits. FS
