Prerequisites: None. This course is designed to introduce students to some key concepts of world geography. The class will discuss several topics which include but not limited to the following: Some basic geographic concepts (location direction distance). maps (locating points on a sphere properties of map projections patterns and symbols on maps). physical geography (landforms weather climate etc). cultural geography (peoples and their ways of life language religion ethnicity population characteristics). geography of spatial behavior (perception of the environment migration). political geography (geographic characteristics of countries boundaries). economic geography (agriculture manufacturing industries). geography of natural resources (renewable and nonrenewable resources). urban geography (functions of urban area) and global issues (protecting the earth's wildlife global warming and green house effect balance between food and population battling acid rain the vanishing rainforest economic growth and environmental problems).
