Prerequisites: Junior level completed the liberal arts core or permission of instructor. Teaching of Writing for Elementary Teachers is a 3 credit course designed to prepare students to be effective writing instructors. The course is focused on helping students to develop an understanding of the complex nature of literacy development at the elementary level. Students will investigate recent research in effective strategies for teaching of writing and apply this knowledge to the development of writing workshops mini-lessons and assessment of children's writing. Along with professional readings small and large classroom group activities students will be expected to actively participate in writer's workshop.
