4 cr. (GE6) A study of the universe that begins with the earth as a planet, the planets and the satellites of our solar system, and moves out through stellar astronomy to galaxies and into the very fabric of the universe. Evaluation of the methods and techniques of astronomy. Explicit training in use of the full spectrum of the MSU observatory equipment. Offered fall semester. Both day and night laboratories. Lecture, 3 hours; laboratory, 3 hours. Prerequisite: Honors program admission or 3.30 cumulative GPA and permission of instructor.
