3 cr. North and South America have different experiences with slavery. In this course we will compare and contrast the African impact on both continents, especially in Brazil and the United States. Some topics that we will study are: the slave trades, runaway slave societies, the Haitian revolution, African religions, race relations, gender roles, families, and the meanings of freedom. Prerequisite(s): HIST 101 or 102 or 103 or 104 or 212 or consent of instructor. T/C1
