5 cr. (GE6) This course is the first of a two-semester sequence primarily intended for students majoring in science and science-related fields. Topics likely to be covered in this semester include: matter, measurement, atoms ions, molecules, reactions, chemical calculations, thermochemistry, bonding, molecular geometry, periodicity. and gases. Note: Chem 121H and 121HL must be taken concurrently. Assignments will include investigations of specific topics and written descriptions of the findings. Lecture, 3 hours; recitation, 1 hour; laboratory, 3 hours. Corequisite: Math 103. Prerequisite: Honors program admission or 3.30 cumulative GPA and permission of the instructor.
