4 cr. (GE6) An introductory course covering topics that concern students' everyday lives. This course is designed for liberal arts and general education students. The course consists of an introduction to the science and includes historical perspectives. The course is designed to present chemistry in its broad cultural, social, and economic context. Assignments will include investigation of specific topics and written descriptions of the findings. Lecture, 3 hours; laboratory, 3 hours. Prerequisite: Honors program admission or 3.30 cumulative GPA and permission of the instructor.
