Covers the work of Innis, McLuhan, Ong, Postman, Carey and others to understand the historical development of shifting communication technologies and patterns of culture from orality to computer communication. Also explores the dynamic between mass culture and subcultural appropriations of media forms and content. Prereq: any two CA courses (excluding CA 501), one of which must have CMN 455 as a prerequisite or permission. Writing intensive. 4 cr.
