Using a variety of theoretical approaches such as relational theory, feminist theory, and social constructionism, we will consider the idea that the expression of power is an act of selfdefi nition, that power resides in the ability to defi ne one's reality while identifying and choosing courses of action, and that disempowerment is the end result of the loss of freedom of action.
