This course will serve as an introduction to central concepts of the American political system and will prompt students to gain a basic understanding of the three-branch structure of American government, the balance of power between the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government, as well as policy issues raised by each of those segments of the American political structure. It will also encourage students to revise their assumptions about American politics. Finally, the course will address issues of civic engagement and citizenship. Pre: Placement into ENG 100 or concurrent enrollment in ENG 22. (DS)
